About

I’m a writer and writing teacher living in the Bay Area with my husband, twin boys,¬†and a mischievous bichon.

I’m a native of Bethesda, Maryland, and received a BA in English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor despite the freezing cold that often made it hard to go outside. I completed an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of San Francisco.

I also spent a semester at the University of Western Australia, in Perth, and studied the Lao language at the Monterey Language Academy. After college and before California, I worked for the United Nations in China and in Laos, and explored different parts of the world, sometimes by bike, including Australia, Italy, Japan and Nepal. I’ve done development work for nonprofits, including VIA, formerly Volunteers in Asia, and the Center for Lao Studies in San Francisco.

I currently teach a personal essay workshop at San Francisco’s Writing Pad.
